IoT, Embedded Systems & PCB Design in Kolkata

We design and ship custom PCBs in production. Five board designs in our portfolio today, including ESP32-based controllers, Quectel 4G LTE communication modules, motor drivers with battery management, and custom display drivers.

Embedded Systems & IoT Hardware

Aeonix is an IoT and embedded systems company in Kolkata. We design the circuit board, write the firmware, connect the device over Wi-Fi, GSM or 4G LTE, and build the dashboard the people running it actually use. One team, from schematic to field deployment.

Our IoT vending network has more than 500 machines in service for clients including the West Bengal, Sikkim and Central Pollution Control Boards. Every unit runs on a board we designed and reports to a cloud dashboard we built. The first one has been running at the same site, on the same board, for three years.

What we deliver

  • Custom PCB design, fabrication & assembly
  • Embedded firmware (C/C++, RTOS)
  • Sensor integration & device engineering
  • IoT: Wi-Fi, GSM, 4G LTE, BLE, LoRa
  • Edge device development
  • Production-ready with certifications

Custom PCB design and fabrication

We design our boards in-house. Five designs are in production today: ESP32-based controllers, Quectel 4G LTE communication modules, motor drivers with battery management, and custom display drivers. We take a board from design through prototyping to production, and the engineers who designed it are the ones who debug it in the field.

Because we deploy our own hardware, our design rules come from field failures, not datasheets. Mains supply in India swings far from its nominal 230 V; we have measured 178 V to 268 V on one line within an hour. So our boards use wide-input power supplies (90–305 V), at least 4 kV of surge protection and a raised brownout threshold, and every board that goes outdoors is conformally coated.

  • PCB design, prototyping and production runs
  • ESP32 controllers, Quectel 4G LTE modules, motor drivers with BMS, display drivers
  • Power, surge and brownout design for Indian supply conditions
  • Conformal coating and enclosure design for outdoor sites

Embedded firmware that expects the network to fail

Our firmware is written in C and C++, on an RTOS or bare metal depending on the job. It assumes the network will not be there when it is needed. Data from our own deployments shows 8–12 short connectivity drops a day on GSM in tier-2 cities, so every transaction is queued on the device, retried with backoff and reconciled with the server when the link returns. Devices take over-the-air updates, so a fix reaches the whole fleet without a site visit.

  • C/C++ firmware on ESP32-class microcontrollers
  • RTOS and bare-metal designs
  • Offline-first queues and server reconciliation
  • Over-the-air (OTA) updates across a deployed fleet

Connectivity, cloud and dashboards

We choose the radio for the site, not the spec sheet: Wi-Fi where there is infrastructure, GSM and 4G LTE where there is not, BLE for phones and wearables, and LoRa for long-range, low-power links. Devices report to the cloud over MQTT, and we build the dashboards on top: live machine health, stock levels, fault alerts and usage by location. That lets an operator run hundreds of units without visiting them.

Built for Indian field conditions

Humidity creeping through seal gaps killed more of our early units than heat did. Outdoor units now ship with IP65 housings, conformal coating and desiccant cartridges that are replaced during routine maintenance. Public hardware also gets tampered with, usually within the first 60 to 90 days. Our cabinets carry tamper-evident screws, an accelerometer for shock detection and an SMS alert when a door opens off-schedule.

IoT products we have shipped

  • IoT cloth bag, compostable carry bag and sanitary pad vending machines, with 500+ units deployed
  • Solar-powered IoT compactor bins with fill-level telemetry
  • Smart e-waste bins with GSM fill-level alerts
  • 4G surveillance cameras and remote audio monitoring devices
  • Health-monitoring wearables and patient-monitoring kiosks

Frequently asked questions

Do you design custom PCBs or use off-the-shelf boards?

We design our own. Five custom board designs are in production, including ESP32 controllers, Quectel 4G LTE modules, motor drivers with battery management and display drivers. Where a standard module is the right choice, such as a cellular modem, we design our board around it.

Can you take a product from idea to production?

Yes. We cover requirements and architecture, PCB design, firmware, enclosure, cloud and app, then field deployment and support. You can also bring us in for one stage, such as only the board or only the firmware.

Which connectivity options do you support?

Wi-Fi, GSM/2G, 4G LTE, BLE and LoRa. Most of our public deployments run on cellular with a 2G fallback, and the firmware keeps working through network gaps.

Where is your team based?

Our office is in Sector V, Bidhannagar (Salt Lake), Kolkata, and our workshop is in Boral, Kolkata. We deploy across India and also have a branch in Michigan, USA.
